Having worn a helmet for many years I know a little about how they feel. I remember my first helmet (the old “steel pot”), and then the transition to the first iteration of the Kevlar “k-pot.” Neither were comfortable, but they did protect the noggin from hard hits…ask me how I know! I long retired before the introduction of the MICH and ACH, but had one. A little better but not much. Then the Hi cut FAST helmet came into being. Yep, I got one. More specifically I should say I got three (at different times)…still uncomfortable, so I passed them on to three of my younger guys. Now I should explain that I believe a helmet is a double edged sword. For ME, it is more about hard knocks than ballistic protection. I don’t care if a helmet is rated to stop .44 magnum rounds; I don’t want to be wearing it if hit by one! That’d hurt! BAD! All that being said, even though I don’t want to personally test it, I’d rather have a ballistic helmet and not need it than need it and not have it. In August I attended NC Scout’s RTO and had the opportunity to visit his store. While there I looked at the helmet, and to me, it seemed the harness was better than others I have seen or used. I’ve worn the helmet several hours during a couple different hog hunts, at night, with PVS14s. I’ve also worn it several hours while clearing up my deer hunting spots, and just working around the house. I &can honestly say that during those times I never once experienced “helmet head.” If you know what I’m talking about you know helmet head! This helmet is by far the most comfortable COMBAT helmet I’ve ever worn. Have I worn it for days on in? Nope. Don’t plan on it. I’m past that stage in my life. If mostly peaceful protests start in my AO and the boys and I have to gather the flock and lock our little neighborhood down I am confident it will do what a helmet does without me wanting to throw it on the ground. Being comfortable with being uncomfortable is a real thing, however, that does not mean if you can add comfort where possible you shouldn’t. If you want a better brain bucket at a very fair price, this is THE ONE.
Protective, comfortable, easy to fit & adjust, reasonably priced, essential.
Fantastic price on a great piece of gear! Worth every penny! You won’t be disappointed.
