Use Your Tools...or, A Simple SIGINT Loadout

You know it might be written somewhere that the goal of Intelligence is exploitation. In fact, its my opinion that intelligence absent exploitation doesn't exist. You've got to have a way to do something with what you've found. More often than not, that conflates collection with intelligence. No such thing. But whatever, semantics aside tools are fun to talk about.Â
A SIGINT package is never complete without a means to scan, monitor and exploit all at once and the Radtel RT-950 is just about perfect in those roles. I've been using it for a little over a year now and it has all but replaced my older communications receivers when paired with a TinySA Ultra.Â

But the real star of the show is the most revolutionary tool in ground-based signals intelligence and that's the TinySA Ultra. It gets the collector on target quick monitoring from 0-10 GHz, and with the ability to monitor multiple bands at once, it scoops up all of the local traffic as soon as it breaks squelch.Â
Last comes the hot button topic everyone is talking about when it comes to signals intelligence and that's drone detection. Keep in mind that drone detectors are meant to alert to the presence of a drone - and the better ones on the market will give you key details like the make/model and operating frequency. From there the TinySA Ultra takes over for actual signals analysis. If only there was a book on the topic. Could you run more? Sure. But you probably wouldn't end up more capable on the collection end. Remember its all about exploitation.Â
